It turns out long distance running isn’t all glamour shots and sprinkles.

Day 82 of 130
Ks covered: 576
Ks to go: 526
General mood: Okay
Running highlight: Finishing 32K long run, in a thunderstorm, without collapsing
Equipment status: Wet from rain
Body status: A bloody chafe-factory
Weight: Back to 145 (God-damn-it!)

And the evil inner-thigh chafe rears its ugly head.

Seriously? Seriously? I mean, I’ve lost some pounds, I’ve been invited to speak at Body-Glide’s next shareholder’s meeting, AND – no matter how unflattering- I run in spandex shorts. How is it possible then that after my 32K long run yesterday I am walking like a horseshoe around town, thanks to a massive chafe near my no-no’s? I bet Crazy-Haruki never has this problem…actually, he probably had his bits ceremonially removed with pinking shears in some kind of Shao-Lin running rite.

It turns out long distance running isn’t all glamour shots and sprinkles. Never mind the chafing, my dignity has been cast off somewhere on the sidewalks of Oakville.

At this point, thanks to the lack of appropriate bathrooms on my running routes, I have graced many a motorist with a mid-day full-moon; we’ve already covered the effects the sport has taken on my feet, and no matter what I do I can’t stop my belly (albeit a smaller one) from hanging over my fuel belt.

Maybe this is why no Miss America has ever listed “running” as her special talent – although it does seriously kick baton-twirling’s pointy ass.

Sigh, I guess I’ve never been cut out (or nip-tucked) to be a beauty queen.

But, on the plus side, I now have more kilometres behind me than ahead in my crazy, Crazy-Haruki running plan, I’m still prettier than this guy,

even in my running gear, and Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson seem to be getting along again. What a relief! Seems it’s a good news day after all.
