What runners need to know ahead of the Goodlife Fitness Toronto marathon

The Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon race day, which features a 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon, is set for Sunday morning.

The Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon is taking over downtown Toronto on Sunday in the first of two major marathons in the Ontario capital this year. Runners from more than 50 different countries will take part in the event, which features a 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon.

The 10K will makes its debut as part of the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon race weekend. There will also be a number of road closures throughout the city, which can be found here. The subway does not run early in the morning on Sunday so it’s recommended that runners make alternative travel arrangements to get to the start line early enough to get in a proper warmup.

Start times (all times EDT)

5K: 8 a.m. (run), 12 noon (walk)
10K: 7:30 a.m.
Half-marathon: 8:30 a.m.
Marathon: 7:30 a.m.

Among the thousands of runners at tomorrow’s race is Ray Lim, a Markham, Ont. resident, who will be running his 150th marathon. He began running 12 years ago and has averaged more than 12 marathons per year since first getting into the sport.

The race will offer bag check (the tag is attached to runners’ race numbers and can be torn off) but are recommended to keep valuables at home. The finish line for all races is located at Ontario Place but the start lines vary depending on what race one does on Sunday.

Start locations

5K: Ontario Place.
10K: Near Rosedale subway station.
Half-marathon: Mel Lastman Square in North York.
Marathon: Mel Lastman Square in North York.

The event is hoping to raise as much as $1.2 million for charity. David Le Porho (2:21:54) and Jutta Merilainen (3:00:45) won the men’s and women’s marathon in 2015.
