Whistler Half-Marathon adds 5K course

Whistler

Runners in Canada have been given another reason go head west (at least temporarily) in 2016. It has just been announced that the Whistler Half-Marathon is going to be adding a 5K race.

The 2016 is scheduled to run on June 4. Previously, the event saw a 10K and a one-kilometre run for kids. The fourth race will nicely round out the race day schedule.

Race director Dave Clark is excited about the change and says that adding the popular race distance to the itinerary will draw more people to the event.

“Participation in 5K distance runs has been growing across North America in recent years as more people look to running to supplement their healthier lifestyles,” he said. “We feel that the addition of a 5K distance will attract new runners and continue to grow the number of groups who travel to Whistler to participate in our event on weekend getaways with friends and family.”

The race’s official charity is Chrohn’s and Colitis Canada. Of each registration fee, $5.00 will be donated to the organization.

Registration for the 2016 event opens on New Year’s Day at 9:00 a.m.
