Wings for Life World Run registration open

Wings for Like World Run Niagara

Wings for Like World Run Niagara

Registration for the Wings for Life World Run happening on May 8, 2016 is now open. Runners who are looking for an out-of-the-ordinary racing experience are likely to be interested in the format of this Niagara Falls event.

Unlike most races, the Wings for Life World Run does not have a set distance. Instead, it’s sort of like an adult version of tag where runners take off at the start line and run for as long as possible before being caught by the pacer trucks– or “chaser trucks” as one might call them. The trucks start at a set pace a half hour into the race. They maintain a steady speed and once they pass a runner, their race is over. Put simply, it’s a game of last man standing. Entry right now costs $40.00.

It’s a fun event and one set of a gorgeous Canadian course. Niagara Falls is not the only venue for the race however– as it’s name “World Run” might suggest, this is a running event that happens all over the world. International chapters also start at the exact same time.

Those who run in Canada though, will enjoy the views (and mist) from the Horseshoe Falls and can spend time wandering around Niagara’s tourist hot spots afterwards.

Sponsored by Red Bull, the race aims for raise funds for those who have spinal injuries. Spinal Cord Research Foundation is the chosen charity and for every runner who enters, the foundation will invest the amount of their entry fee into research on spinal injuries.

Typically 1,500 take part in the event. Last year, 155 nationalities took part.
