World Championships day two preview

Andre Dr Grasse after winning 100m final at the Pan Am Games.

Day two of the World Championships in Beijing is going to bring several events for Canadian fans to get excited about. For Canadians watching, day two actually starts Saturday night because of the time difference (morning in China is still Saturday night for Canadians). Here’s a round up of what to watch. All times are eastern time rather than local time.

Brianne Theisen-Eaton is going to run the 800m as part of the heptathlon at 7:40 a.m. eastern time. After today’s events the athlete is sitting in fourth place with 3865 points. In first is Jessica Ennis-Hill with 4005 points. Theisen-Eaton will run at 7:40 a.m. eastern time.

Other middle distance events on the track tomorrow are the men’s 800m semi-finals and the women’s 1,500m semi-finals. Canadian athletes won’t be in either race. They will run at  8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. respectively.

Canadians have been extra enthusiastic about the young Andre De Grasse this year. The sprinter is going to be running the 100m semi-finals alongside team mate Aaron Brown. The event starts at 7:10 a.m. De Grasse will run in the first heat with Usain Bolt. Brown runs in heat two with Justin Gatlin. Finals are going to be at 9:15 a.m Sunday. It will be the last event of the day.

Saturday night

As for the women’s 100m. Heats go at midnight on Saturday. Representing Canada is Khamica Bingham, Crystal Emmanul and Kim Hyacinthe.
