The Puerto Rican record holder in the marathon (2:36:31) is racing the New York City Marathon on Sunday weeks after Hurricane Maria hit the Caribbean island.

Beverly Ramos, a two-time Olympian, trained for her second TCS New York City Marathon in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, which first touched down on the island in late September and caused severe damage. The category 5 hurricane left an estimated 3.4 million people without power, according to the New York Times, killing 51 people as of Oct. 28, according to CNN.

Ramos, who holds records for Puerto Rico in events from the 1,500m up to the marathon including road and track events, says she is racing NYC with a headband printed with the Puerto Rican flag.
