VIDEO: Catching up with Around the Bay’s snarky “Tim Grim”

Hurling insults at runners at the end of their race, Tim the Grim has become a fixture in Canada's Around the Bay road race. This year we caught up with the king or snark and asked him how he really feels.

He’s famous in the running community for his remarks and arguably the sassiest man out on the race course. Tim Grim is the iconic Grim Reaper who stands at the 28-kilometre mark at Canada’s oldest race: Around the Bay.

Year after year, he arrives at the Hamilton race in his every day black robe to heckle runners who are reaching the final stages of the event. Shouting out insults to the runners, he has earned a reputation for being the king of snark.

Our favourite comments from the 2016 edition include: “Lazy ass relay runner”; “You look dead”; “You’re looking fat” and “The beard does not make you faster.”

Despite his insulting ways, most runners find him encouraging because once they see him on the course by the Hamilton Cemetery, they know they have just two kilometres to the finish.

We caught up with Tim Grim and Grim Junior this year. Watch our video above to get to know the true Tim Grim.

My boyfriend promised to run my first Around the Bay with me. Three years later, I married him.
