Nearing the halfway point of his 8,000-kilometre unassisted run across Canada, British adventurer Jamie McDonald has arrived in Toronto to lead a charity run at 10:30 a.m. around SickKids hospital.

From March to December 2013, the 26-year-old from Gloucester, U.K. is averaging a marathon a day, raising funds for The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Pied Piper Appeal in the U.K.

He hopes to become the first person to run across Canada without a support team, pushing a 30kg Chariot running stoller holding all of his worldly possessions.

We caught up with a very enthusiastic McDonald for an interview on his way into Toronto. You can find links to his donation sites, as well as his video diaries and a live tracker HERE.

McDonald’s last journey involved an unassisted cycling trip from Bangkok, Thailand, to his hometown of Gloucester. Just two days later, he set the world record for continuous riding on a stationary bicycle, pedalling nowhere for 11 days. In this interview with Canadian Running, McDonald hinted that he’s considering a similar stunt on a treadmill if he makes it across Canada by his goal date of Dec. 18. He also revealed a plan to strip off this Flash Gordon superhero outfit and jump into the Pacific Ocean naked, assuming all goes according to plan with his journey. McDonald’s travel visa runs out in late December, so he needs to keep up the pace of an average of a marathon a day in order to make it on time.
