Running expos

Nova Scotia’s largest running expo is this weekend at the Bluenose Marathon and there is a lot to do to get ready. Working with sponsors, creating the booth layout, printing posters, ordering volunteer shirts and food, dressing mannequins, finding props, organizing giveaways, creating unique contest ideas, recruiting volunteers and, of course, setting up the two booths.

It took my mom and aunt ten hours to staple two-thousand contest cards on pirate necklaces. The pirate crew took time off work to load the cargo van and help me set up the expo. There will be over one-hundred volunteers helping in the Maritime Race Weekend and Police Chase expo booths over the next two days. They’ll run the contests, hand out giveaways, answer questions and register runners.

Two features that are expected to be a huge hit with runners are the Canadian Running photoshoot and 2015 medal reveal.

Maritime Race Weekend enthusiasts have been anticipating the 2015 medal reveal for months. All three medals will be revealed at the running expo this weekend, but here’s a sneak peak of my favorite. In the spirit of good times in the Maritimes, it’s a pocket watch that opens. When you cross the finish-line in September, if you see blue glitter inside your medal, then you’ll win a pair of Brooks sneakers!
