Whistler half-marathon sold out

The Whistler half-marathon is sold out.

The Whistler half-marathon is sold out.

One of Canada’s more scenic races, The North Face Whistler half-marathon, has sold out in under 90 days.

The race, which sold 1,200 bib numbers between Jan. 1 and March 23, is becoming a hot destination race for runners from across North American.

Race director Dave Clark claims that only 22 per cent of runners at the event live within the Sea to Sky corridor between Vancouver and Whistler, B.C.

“Selling all 1,200 available spots in such a short period of time shows the demand for running events such as this continues to grow. The popularity of running as a lifelong sport has grown exponentially over the past decade and appears to be continuing for the foreseeable future,” said Clark.

There will be runners from six countries and 19 different states, as well as athletes from across Canada.

Still, it’s not too late to get involved with the June 7 event. The weekend is also host to a 10K race which follows much of the same route as the half-marathon around the mountain town. The 600 bib numbers for the 10K are 45 per cent sold and are expected to also sell out before the end of registration.
