Snow blanketed Vancouver this weekend but that didn't stop runners and walkers from taking part in the second annual Big Elf Run.

Big Elf Run

Vancouver was covered in snow this weekend but that didn’t stop some keen runners and walkers from taking part in the second annual Big Elf Run. The unique pre-holiday event was held in Stanley Park, which Canadian Running awarded as the “best running spot in Canada” in our latest issue.

Really, the snow made the event even more holiday-themed as Metro Vancouver rarely experiences significant snowfalls. The afternoon event featured a 1K, 5K and 10K, the latter two of which are chip-timed, and registration comes with elf-themed goodies. In the results, all runners are listed as being from the North Pole.

The race featured prizes for the following categories: Fastest elf, best elfit, best elfie, elf team spirit, notable corporate elf and title of Santa Claus. Understandably, most runners were dressed in red and green on Sunday in light of the occasion.

The Big Elf Run begins at Lumberman’s Arch and features a portion along Stanley Park’s Seawall passing by 13 notable Vancouver landmarks. See select photos from the Dec. 18 event below.
