Krispy Kreme Challenge finishers eat 12 doughnuts, run 8K
One hour to run 8K and consume 2,400 calories in the form of 12 doughnuts. Introducing the Krispy Kreme Challenge.
For those unfamiliar with the Krispy Kreme Challenge, the event involves a whole lot of eating and running.
Krispy Kreme Challenge participants must consume 2,400 calories in the form of 12 doughnuts, run 8K, all in less than one hour. The annual event in Raleigh, N.C. was held on Saturday morning at North Carolina State University in an event that sounds similar in nature to the beer mile.
The 2017 Krispy Kreme Challenge marked the 13th time that the event has been held as participants push the boundaries of their stomachs – “gastrointestinal fortitude” as described by the organizers – and their running ability. Competitors begin on NC State campus and run 4K to a nearby Krispy Kreme, consume 12 original glazed doughnuts, and complete the dreaded return trip.
In the 12 years leading up to Saturday, the event has raised more than $1.2 million for the University of North Carolina Children’s Hospital. The event began as a simple challenge among ten friends and has grown ever since.
According to the New York Times, as many as 8,000 runners were expected to take part in the annual fundraiser on Saturday morning.
