Feb. 3 marks the date of the world’s longest-running and most prestigious indoor track and field event in the world.

The 111th Millrose Games, organized by the New York Road Runners, the hosts of the New York City Marathon, take place at the Armory in New York City, which features a 200m banked track. The Canadian contingent will for the most part be competing in the middle-distance events though two elites are in the sprint/hurdles events.

The Wanamaker Mile is the most famous of the races. Three Canadians, all Olympians, are in the men’s and women’s fields including Charles Philibert-Thiboutot, Gabriela Stafford and Nicole Sifuentes. Canadian women’s indoor mile record holder Kate Van Buskirk, who broke the national record last weekend, will race the 3,000m as will collegiate star and NCAA cross-country champion Justyn Knight, who is fresh off a 3:55 mile PB.

The Millrose Games until 2011 were held on a temporary track surface in Madison Square Garden, the home of the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.

Below are the notable Canadian entries, in order of the schedule of events.

Corey Bellemore – Men’s Mile (2:47 p.m.)

Brian Richards – Fred Schmertz Men’s 60m Hurdles (4:08 p.m.)

Kate Van Buskirk – Women’s 3,000m (4:28 p.m.)

Justyn Knight – Dr. Sander Men’s 3,000m (4:52 p.m.)

Sage Watson – Women’s 300m (5:03 p.m.)

Gabriela Stafford – NYRR Wanamaker Women’s Mile (5:27 p.m.)

Ouch! It never feels good to get dropped in the last lap of a race, but after the shock of my rustbuster settled, I am really happy with the race because: ๐Ÿ’ฅI am the fittest I've ever been in January (mile PB of 4:28.88 in this race!) ๐Ÿ’ฅI made it to the starting line with my breakfast in my belly. (The first race of the season is always the hardest for my mind and stomach… Last year I wasn't able to have my stomach under control until June.) ๐Ÿ’ฅI've got the nervous jitters out of my system and am PUMPED to do it all again this week at the Millrose Games at the @armorynyc! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Also HUGE shoutout to my lil sis @luciastafford7 who ran a massive PB of 4:13 for the 1500m en route to her 4:31 mile, and @k8vbeast who broke the Candian record in 4:26.9! #OhCanada #runhappy #runhappyCA #kleanathlete
