Canada Running Series launches Montreal subway running challenge

For the month of June, participants are invited to run the length of the Montreal subway system for a total of 66 kilometres

In Fall 2020, the Canada Running Series (CRS) launched their first-ever TTC Running Challenge, which invited participants to run the distance of all four of Toronto’s subway lines for a total of 76.5Km. The CRS is now bringing the event to Montreal, with the brand new Défi STM set to begin on June 1.

Throughout the month of June, runners can walk or run the total distance of Montreal’s subway system, for a total of 66 kilometres. That equals out to an average of just over two kilometres per day, if you were to run or walk every day of the challenge. To help runners in Montreal complete the challenge, Montreal CRS race director Francois Lecot created Strava routes for participants to follow to help ensure they cover the entire distance. Runners who are not in Montreal can still participate, since the only requirement is that you complete the 66-kilometre distance.

The registration fee for the event is $50, and a five dollar donation will be made for each entry to one of four charitable organizations supported by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), including Centraide du Grand Montréal, the Canadian Red Cross, Partenaire Santé Québec and Réchaud-Bus. Participants who sign up for the $50 option will also receive a free STM-branded running shirt, collectible cup, fridge magnet set and a running belt. A $30 option is also available, however this registration does not come with a t-shirt.

For more information or to register for the challenge, head to the CRS website. Registration is open now, and the event will run from June 1st to 30.
