For runners looking to take on a bigger challenge at the Ottawa Marathon, two new additions for 2017 may be just what you’re looking for.

The May 27-28 festivities, which will celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, will include a “Lumberjack Challenge” and a “Voyageur Challenge”– both of which are a combination of individual races. These added challenges are sure to make one of Canada’s most popular events that much more appealing in 2017.

Both the Lumberjack and Voyageur challenges will echo the style of the world-famous Dopey Challenge at the annual Walt Disney World race weekend in that runners tackle separate distances back-to-back. By accumulating the number of races ran over the weekend, they create a larger overall goal.

Lumberjack and Voyageur Challenge participants will receive the shirt and medal for each of the races plus an additional memento. Registrations are limited to 200 participants for the Lumberjack Challenge and 1,000 for the Voyageur so make sure to sign up early for the popular late-spring event, which Canadian Running named best race of 2016. There will be a prompt on registration to choose one of the two challenges in addition to the individual events.
