Global Running Day is coming up on June 3, and this year, road races from the Atlantic to Pacific coasts of Canada and everywhere in between are teaming up to raise money for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) with Canada Moves, a virtual relay. This event can be completed at any time on June 3, and there will be a “digital relay” that starts in Atlantic Canada and moves toward the Pacific throughout the day to showcase the athletes, run clubs and race organizers who love to run and be active. Canada Moves is free to enter, and anyone can register to participate here from now until the day of the event.

Why CMHA?

As stated on the Canada Moves website, it’s more important than ever before to “support friends, family and our fellow community members and enable all Canadians to flourish and thrive.” It’s noted that physical activity is incredibly important for one’s mental health, but there’s much more to a healthy lifestyle than that. The CMHA “provides advocacy, programs and resources in over 330 communities nationwide. Their services help those experiencing mental health problems and illnesses and support recovery and resilience, which is especially vital during this time of uncertainty.”

Facebook Live

While individuals can run and participate with Canada Moves at any time during June 3, the digital relay (which will be on Facebook Live) will move through the country to feature many different road races. The relay will start in Newfoundland with the Tely 10 Mile Road Race at 12 p.m. local time, followed by the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon in Nova Scotia. From there, races from Quebec and Ontario will be featured at noon ET, including events like the Around the Bay, the Ottawa Marathon, the Canada Running Series and many more.
