The fifth annual Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services Half-Marathon took place Sunday morning amid frosty conditions, but that didn’t stop some 3,000-plus participants from braving the cold and lining up for this sold-out event.

The signature half-marathon, 10K and 5K all start and finish at the Canadian Mennonite University on Shaftesbury Boulevard. All courses head west along Roblin Blvd. passing the zoo and some of Assiniboine Park with the longer races –the half and 10K –then running across and along the river before returning towards the finish.

Jared Slobozian and Eva Yablecki were the first place finishers in the 10K with times of 36:38 and 42:01 respectively. The 5K was won by Benjamin Perrett (17:26) and Margrett Watt (20:44).

The event raises funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and has donated almost $50,000 so far.
