Le Chocolat is Windsor’s sweetest Half

Some 2,000 plus participants were treated to Windsor’s premier and boutique running event over the weekend.

Le Chocolat Half Marathon, 10K and 5K – A Mother’s Day Primer – took place on Sunday in Windsor’s Walkerville neighbourhood which takes advantage of the beautiful Windsor waterfront as it runs along Riverside Drive. The scenic course provides a panoramic skyline view of bordering Detroit and starts and finishes at the trendy Walkerville Brewery on Argyle Rd.

The sold out event expanded from a single 5K race that hosted 700 participants in 2013 to include a 10K as well as Windsor’s first and only half marathon in 2014. About 1,000 runners and walkers registered in the 5K this year with another 600 in both the 10K and half marathon.

Participants (19 and older) enjoyed a signature 3L purse of red or white wine that came with their registration kits. There were firemen volunteers helping out at aid stations, a Le Chocolat inspired medal, and of course, lots of chocolate treats during and after the races.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the event was most popular among females. There were almost 1,700 female finishers compared to the 200 or so males.

Le Chocolat was the first of several events in the popular RunningFlat race series which offers some of the biggest and best running events in southwestern Ontario. Their next event is the Pelee Island Winery half marathon which takes place on June 1st, and unfortunately, has long been sold out.
