Lindsay Lamrock wins 2023 Prince Edward Island Half-Marathon outright
Congratulations to all the runners who ran on PEI last weekend
Last weekend marked the annual Prince Edward Island (PEI) Marathon weekend. The event was a huge success, and runners from all over the province and country came out to take part in one of the many available races, including the marathon, half-marathon run, half-marathon walk, 16K run, 10K run, and others. Known as one of Canada’s top 5 Boston Qualifiers, participants came out to run fast and enjoy the race’s community atmosphere. Lindsay Lamrock beat all the men in the half-marathon, breaking the tape in a time of 1:19:12–a stellar result.
The Jacob Simmons Spud Run
The marathon was renamed the Jacob Simmons Spud Run in honour of Jacob Simmons, a frequent participant in the P.E.I. marathon weekend who played the role of Tate, the Potato Board Mascot, and was named PEI Roadrunner Male Runner of the Year in 2019. Tragically, Simmons was killed by an impaired driver while cycling in 2020. Runners honoured his memory during the marathon weekend, and the renaming of the race helped cement his legacy as an active and enthusiastic participant and community supporter.
