Sex-transition surgery fund to benefit from Toronto’s Pride Run

Ontario's trans community encouraged by potential boost in financial assistance

Ontario’s transgender community was happy to learn this month that Women’s College Hospital Foundation’s Transition-Related Surgery Compassionate Fund will be one of four beneficiaries of this year’s Pride and Remembrance 5k run/3k walk, to take place in Toronto on June 23. The fund was set up to assist people undergoing gender-transition surgery at WCH with some of the ancillary costs associated with the operation, such as travel and accommodation for those living outside the GTA. (The cost of the surgery itself has been covered by Ontario’s provincial health plan since 2016.)

The three other beneficiaries for this year’s Pride Run fundraising are LGBT Youth Connect, Canadian Lesbian Gay Archives’ (CLGA) Digital Hub Project, and the Pride and Remembrance Foundation.

Registration for the race opened March 1.
