Summer must-try event: A trail beer mile

trail beer mile

After the beer mile’s recent rise in popularity, it was only a matter of time before it spread to another beloved element of the sport: trail running.

The Mad Trapper racing series, which started out as a single, small snowshoe race, has now expanded to several fun trail racing event every year including the Pancake Predictions Run, the Natural Obstacle Off-Trail Race, the Power in Pink (women’s only race) and perhaps the most unique of all: a trail beer mile.

trail beer mileTaking place on June 27th in Denholm, QC., the trail beer mile will run much the same as your conventional track beer mile with four beers and four 400m laps, but with the added challenge of a trail course. This is certainly not a place where the beer mile record will be broken.

What is especially great about the Mad Trapper beer mile is its focus on inclusivity. While you must be over legal drinking age (remember though, in Quebec, that age is 18) to participate in the beer mile, underage runners can try their hand at a rootbeer mile held on the same course.

For those that find the idea of a beer mile daunting, there is also a team challenge where two people can split the drinking and running. That’s perhaps a less daunting way to introduce someone to the wonderful world of drinking and running.
