TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon reveals 2022 medals and race shirts

This year's medal is designed after the official tree of the city

TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon

The medal and T-shirt design for the 2022 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon has been announced, and it looks brilliant. The T-shirt design is as hip as it gets, plus the medal has special environmental ties to the city.

The race shirt

Each participant will receive an ASICS Ready-Set short sleeve T-shirt, designed by Toronto-based artist Ben Johnston, a multidisciplinary artist who uses custom typography for murals, advertising and public art. The 2022 shirt displays a funky 3D text block to emphasize the city we love and proudly run through.

The medal

This year’s medal is finally here and designed to remind you of the race day. The inspiration behind the medal comes from an oak tree in Tommy Thompson Park (The Leslie Spit). The oak tree is the official tree of the City of Toronto and can be found in parks all over the city.

“The two oak trees were added to the medal, encircling the skyline and Tommy Thompson Park, connecting all of us to the healing power of nature and our responsibility to preserve it,” says medal designer Inge Johnson.

The race

The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon has earned a World Athletics Elite label, making it only the second race in Canada with the title. It is the final event in the Canada Running Series calendar for 2022. The race has served as the Athletics Canada Canadian Marathon Championship and the Canadian Olympic marathon trials since 2017.

This year’s event will be held on Oct. 16. You can find out more and register for the race here.
