The second installment of the Toronto Women’s Run Series was held in Sunnybrook park on Saturday morning. The 2XU Toronto Women’s 5K and 10K is the second of three events in the series, which also includes a 10K/half-marathon race, run earlier this year, and the upcoming 5K/8K race.

Among the race features are firefighters at the water stations, chocolate at the finish line and a fast course in the 147-acre park in central Toronto. The race is open to runners and walkers and provides a fun way to get involved in the local road racing scene. The tagline of the well-organized series is “women set the pace.”

There were more than 850 finishers between the two races on Saturday under sunny skies.

It's time to celebrate with friends and family! #womensetthepace

Brittany Moran won the women’s 5K in a speedy 17:15. Earlier this year, she ran 33:46 at the Sporting Life 10K. Moran, a Toronto-based chiropractor, is featured in the latest September/October issue of Canadian Running with strength training tips to fix foot crossover – when your foot lands in front of the other as if you were running on a tight rope – and the dreaded shin splints. See Moran’s race details on her Strava account.

Joao Fernandes was second as men are permitted to run in the race but, according to the race website, are asked not to “cross the finish line before the first woman crosses the finish line.”
