Leslie Sexton is ready to defend her title at the 2018 Canadian Marathon Championships taking place this Sunday at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

The London, Ont.-based runner has had a solid training block and is ready to run fast. She’s hoping longterm to break 2:30, saying that a time in the 2:20’s is what she believes she can eventually achieve.

Sexton took a short break from running in May to get herself prepared for marathon season. Since her break, she has run the Edmonton 10K, taking the win there, and then went into a big block of training. Sexton’s biggest weeks of training are around 210 kilometres of volume with two runs every day except Sundays.

She said in an interview earlier this fall that this build has been similar to those before it, with one exception: “The one thing Steve [Weiler, Sexton’s coach] and I added for this buildup was a bit more 10K-pace work, so that I could touch on some faster running and get in an extra workout once every three weeks or so.”
