Reasons to put your kid in a track club

Anticipation at the start of a race

Are you a parent of a young one who is showing signs of potentially becoming a runner? Here’s the case for signing him/her up for a kid’s track club.
Anticipation at the start of a race

Have a child who is showing an interest in running? Get him/ her involved in a track club. There are so many reasons why starting kids young is a great idea. Here are a few pretty convincing arguments for the kid’s track club.

You are encouraging physical activity

This is one of the most obvious perks. Making sure that your kid gets enough physical activity is important. If they are part of a track club for kids, they will have regular workouts on their schedule and begin to understand that staying active is an important thing to make time for and not optional.

Your child gets the chance to discover and develop talent

Your son or daughter might be really good at running! Many talented runners get into the sport when they are kids. If your child has a talent, they can begin to discover that and that’s a big confidence booster. That could possibly last into adulthood or teen years if they really want to get serious with it down the road.

Running is a lifestyle, one that your child will likely stick with

Many people who are active as adults were active as children. If your child is running with a track club, it will become a staple in their life. Many times, this lasts into adulthood whether they race or they continue running to keep on top of their fitness.

He/ she will learn team skills

Sports teach team skills and cooperation. Teaching young kids to cheer on their partners or help them out during a tough workout is teaching them compassion and to look out for others.

Kids in track clubs get a chance to be around those who know their sport

The people who they meet at the club will become role models if they are a coach or could become best friends if they are team mates. Having solid friendships is important to youth, especially because they will feel a part of a community. Plus, being around others who know the sport means that your child will approach running the safe way because mentors will pass on their knowledge. That takes the guesswork right out of it.

If he/she gets serious about the sport, they’ve got the basics down

Believe it or not, there’s a lot to learn about running. If your son or daughter becomes serious about running in high school or university, they are already going to know about rest and recovery, proper nutrition, which clothes to run in and how to deal with race anxiety and running in front of crowds. There are also details like the distance of a track or how many laps are involved in a 1,500m race. Learning these things now makes it less intimidating later.

Running will be framed in a fun way

Running and physical fitness are often talked about in a negative way. Many people say running is hard or not fun or too exhausting. If your son or daughter gets involved in a track club, they are doing it with other people who enjoy it. Many coaches will include running games in the workouts making it a positive experience for them.

Your child will get a chance to be challenged

To adults, kids competitions seem small. To your child, race day is the big day. They are looking forward to it and they too have goals that are very big to them. It’s important to be challenged no matter what your age.

Races are a learning experience

When you compete, you learn how to handle having a bad race. You also learn that training and hard work can really pay off. When your child sets goals and achieves them they will learn to apply this to other areas of their life too.
