Runner accidentally crosses U.S. border and gets detained by authorities

Cedella Roman accidentally crossed the Canada-U.S. border May 21st while on a run. Roman was detained by U.S. border patrol.

The French citizen was visiting her mother who lives in North Delta, B.C. and decided to go for a jog. While running, Roman ended up on a dirt path where she was going to turn around and head home. Roman was quickly stopped by a border patrol officer who informed her that she had crossed the border illegally.

The CBC reports that Roman had unknowingly crossed into Blaine, Washington. Roman reportedly saw no warning signs, and was unaware of her mistake. She had no documentation on her person.

Roman was transferred to the Tacoma Northwest Detention Centre, which is run by the Department of Homeland Security. She was eventually able to contact her mother, who brought her documentation across the border. Roman was discharged from the facility June 6th, just over two weeks later.
