The “promposal” is a big thing for high school seniors at this time of year, and the running promposal has swept social media, inspiring many young runners to combine their favourite sport with their high school graduation dance. Here are a few fun examples, and some guiding principles. (We realize that pizza isn’t directly related to running, but everyone knows the easiest way to a runner’s heart is through food.)

  1. Wait until after the practice or race to ask. By waiting until the end of the workout or event, you avoid being let down or making the person you are asking uncomfortable. It’s important to let your potential date focus before they compete or train.

2. Get a poster board and make it look nice. Ideally, the running promposal uses a message on a poster to ask the other party to the dance.

3. The message on the poster should be quippy and fun. A pun or play-on-words goes a long way, especially if it’s track-related.

And if all else fails, there’s always pizza.
