Kate Van Buskirk

Kate Van Buskirk is a 1,500m and 5,000m runner who has been a staple on the Canadian running scene for years.

The 2017-2018 running year has been big for Van Buskirk. She set a Canadian record in the mile, signed with Nike, and made another national team.

The distance runner is a two-time national champion and a Commonwealth Games medalist. She regrettably missed this year’s Canadian Championships due to illness, but is looking forward to competing at home at the NACAC Track and Field in the 6ix Championships this weekend.

Van Buskirk had a stellar indoor season, setting a new Canadian record in the mile in 4:26.92. Van Buskirk joked that she wasn’t even aware that she had set the record until roughly 30 minutes after the race.

This weekend will be Van Buskirk’s tenth time representing Canada. She says one of her biggest running regrets is turning down her chance to race in Toronto at the 2015 Pan Am Games. With that in mind, she accepted the invitation to compete at the NACAC Championships without hesitation.
