The 2014 Canada Army Run has sold out at 25,000 entries as the race continues to be one of the fastest growing events in the country.

Since the 2008 inaugural year, the participant numbers have more than tripled. In 2008, the Ottawa event saw 7,000 runners participate. This year there are 13,000 runners signed up to run the 5K and 12,000 signed up for the half-marathon. This is the fourth year the run has sold out.

“I am eagerly awaiting the Canada Army Run weekend, and look forward to welcoming our 25,000 participants, and all the spectators who will cheer them on as they run, walk and roll,” said Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse. “Together, we will celebrate the commitment of our soldiers to all Canadians. Together, we are strong, proud, and ready.”

The race raises money for the Military Families Fund and Solider On. Last year a total of $310,000 was raised for the two organizations and, in total, the event has raised over $800,000 since it began.

The race will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21.
