Chris Hadfield named “Great Canadian” for 2015 Canada D’Eh Run
Chris Hadfield has been voted as this year’s “Great Canadian” for the Canada D’Eh Run in Amherstburg, Ont.
Each year, runners participating in the Canada Day event vote for the “Great Canadian.” That person is then put on the participant’s medal for that year. This year’s batch of runners voted for Chris Hadfield, a choice which race director, Chris Uszynski calls impressive. Their other options were Don Cherry and Wayne Gretzky.
Runners planning to run the 5K event on July 1 also suggest famous Canadians for the next year. Those who are named the “Great Canadian” are notable people with major contributions (varying in scope) to Canadian history. Past Canadians featured on the medal include Terry Fox and Sir John A. MacDonald.
The race starts in Amherstburg and tours around the Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada. The event features both a 5K and a kid’s run. Runners should be ready for the 9 a.m. start on July 1. Festivities last until noon.
