Easter traditions that runners should embrace

Easter is here. This is a fun holiday that many also associate with the beginning of spring. Just like any other holiday, it comes with a whole slew of traditions. Some of these compliment the runner’s lifestyle. Others, not so much. Either way, runners should feel lucky to be able to embrace these festivities:

The tradition: Easter Brunch

Why embrace it:  Because fruit salads and omelettes are great for the runner’s diet. Eggs are popular among athletes because they are bone boosters and a great source of protein. Cook up a spinach omelette or try out fresh English muffins as another brunch option.

The tradition: The egg hunt

Why embrace it: Embrace it by turning the egg hunt into a runner’s activity. Get your best runner pals and organize an egg hunt along your favourite route. You’re making Easter a runner’s holiday. Why wouldn’t you?

The tradition: Eating too much chocolate

Why embrace it: You work hard. You’re diligent with keeping on top of your mileage. Today, everyone is stuffing their faces with milk chocolate and mini eggs galore. Join in! You know it will take no time before you run it all off anyway.

The tradition: Keeping eyes peeled for a bunny

Why embrace it: After watching for race pace rabbits all these years, you know this feeling all too well.

The tradition: Roast turkey or chicken dinner

Why embrace it: Runners need their protein. The best part of leftover Easter dinners is the turkey sandwiches to look forward to after a run when muscles are crying out for protein.

The tradition: Waking up ridiculously early to hunt for gifts from the Easter bunny

Why embrace it: It’s easy for the runner to embrace this one. You’re always awake really early in the day. Now, you actually get company early in a.m. hours. Plus you’ll be the most alert of the bunch during morning Easter celebrations.
