Just two days after Canada Day, Lewis Kent gives Canadians more reason to brag about our ability to drink and run super fast!

Lewis Kent is a well-known beer miler placing fifth in the world at the beer mile championships last year. Just two days after Canada Day, he ran yet another impressive time in the event giving Canadian runners more reason to brag of our ability to drink beer and run really fast.

The student athelete from the University of Western Ontario ran a 5:01.1 beer mile on July 3. Currently, the record is listed as James Nielsen’s 4:57 which he ran last year. Corey Gallagher’s times of 5:00.2 and 5:01.6 are listed as the second and third best times. Reviewing video submissions and times before recognizing beer miles as official usually takes a fair bit of time.

Unlike other races on the track, beer miles are recorded and then a video is submitted for review. In most cases, beer miles that are submitted consist of a group of friends together drinking beer on the track– much less official than your average race.

Runners who compete in a beer mile must drink four beers and run four laps with each beer being drank before the lap starts. Beers must be five per cent alcohol and in a 355mL bottle or can.
