Man trampled in Texas bull run

Running of the BullsOne man was hospitalized with a concussion and multiple large gashes over the weekend after being struck by multiple bulls in a bull running event.

The inaugural Great Bull Run, held on Jan. 25 in Baytown, Texas, is based on the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. The event attracted 3,500 runners and nearly 6,000 spectators. The day concluded with a tomato fight.

Hugh Soto, a 21-year-old University of Houston student was the only person hospitalized after being struck by one of the first bulls released from their pen and then trampled by others behind. He suffered a concussion, lacerations and serious bruising. He has a murky memory of the event.

The event cost participants $70 to run with the bulls for two minutes and a cold beer.

Organizers told the Houston Chronicle they thought the event was a success.

A similar event in Virginia saw two people hospitalized.
