At 40 years old, Mariya Konovalova is running times elite marathoners dream of.

On Sunday in Nagoya, Japan, the masters athlete ran a personal best of 2:22:27 – you read that correctly – to shatter the world record for women 40 and older. The time ranks her tenth in the world this year, among company with women 10-15 years younger than herself. The next fastest woman Konovalova’s age is ranked 98th in the world, having run 2:35:52.

The new record takes more than two full minutes off the old mark, which was held by Irina Mikitenko from the 2013 Berlin Marathon.

The race was won by Bahrain’s Eunice Jepkirui Kirwa in 2:22:08.

The Russian distance runner is no newcomer to elite racing, even if her marathon bests may still be ahead of her. She’s a 3-time finalist over 5,000m at world championships and finished fifth in the 10,000m at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Konovalova isn’t the only athlete running fast at 40 this year. American elite Bernard Lagat is seemingly breaking a masters record every time he steps on the track since he rolled over another new decade at the end of 2014.
