Mark your calendars all of you connoisseurs of fine wine and crazy running races. The 29th Medoc Marathon, affectionately known as “the longest race in the world,” will take place Sept. 7 in Pauillac, France. Organizers say this year’s event will be more festive than ever, with 22 “refreshment” stands and 21 food stands along the scenic course that winds through the famous vineyards of Pauillac, St. Julien-Beychevelle, Haut-Medoc and St. Estephe.
The entire event is like one big party, with the vast majority of the 8,500 participants wearing outrageous costumes. Each year features a different theme for dressing up, and this year it’s “science fiction.”
Created in 1984 by a group of wine-loving marathoners, the Medoc race was built on the four pillars of health, sport, conviviality and fun. The pre-race dinner takes place in the chateau Lamothe-Cissac and post-run festivities include a ball open to all, fireworks and live bands.
