B&O Yorkville Run to host 5K championship

The application window for the Canadian 5K road championship has opened.

The newest addition to the national road racing championship will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, in conjunction with the B&O Yorkville Run, but high-level athletes hoping to compete must apply for a bib number in advance.

The 5K championship will differ from other road race championships in that the race will be run before the community race afterwards. It will feature the top 200 Canadian road runners.

Standards to race in the championship event are a 19:00 or faster result in the 5K for men,  or 21:00 for women.

Runners who apply for entrance will be notified by April 11 if they have been selected.

There will be prize money for overall winners and age-category champions. Masters athletes with results close to standards are also encouraged to still apply.
