Nova Scotia Marathon sees largest ever turnout on 45th birthday
This weekend was a great on for celebrating birthdays of eastern Canadian races. On Sunday, the Nova Scotia Marathon celebrated its 45th running and saw the biggest turnout yet– 356 runners.
The event offers runners a chance to compete in the full or half marathon or a 10K. The winners of the 10K today were Ian McGrath in the men’s race. McGrath ran a 40:58. Heather Baillie was the first place woman running 44:28.
The champions of the half were Matthew White and Emily Hamilton. They ran 1:16:54 and 1:25:05 respectively. As for the marathon, that was won by Bryan Hipson in the men’s race. He ran a 2:46:15 crossing the line first. Erin Barrell won the women’s race with her time of 3:20:20.

It’s a great one to sign up for considering it’s certified and a Boston qualifier as well as a historic race. Those who race get the opportunity of exploring Barringon Passage, the lobster capital of Canada where the race is held. Afterwards, runners can celebrate their hard efforts by sitting down to a meal of fish or seafood chowder and pie. Not bad for a post-race meal!

Fees for entering are fair priced, an added bonus for runners. The marathon and half will cost $65 while the 10K costs $40.
