Vancouver Rock 'n' Roll half-marathon

Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Vancouver Half Marathon is ready to rock the streets of Vancouver for its second year. This year, the race is offering two days of running—with the Cunningham Seawall 10K taking place on Saturday, Oct. 24 and half-marathon on Sunday, Oct. 25. In addition to the amped up energy of live local bands lining the race route, Stanley Park Brewing will return as the official beer provider and The Westin Bayshore will once again act as the race’s Headquarter Hotel.

The elite field of runners has also just been announced. The top three male athletes showing up in Vancouver to race the half this weekend are Paul Kimugul, Dylan Wykes and Solomon Rotich. Kimugul is the pre-race favourite with his half-marathon PB of 1:00:15. Second to him could be Rotich with his time of 1:02 flat. Our Canadians to watch for in the men’s race are going to be Wykes who has run a half as fast as 1:02:14 and Kelly Wiebe. The Coquitlam, B.C. athlete is capable of running a sub-1:05 half.

As for the women, the top athletes battling for first place will be Sabrina Wilkie (1:17:06), Jen Moroz (1:20:30) and Cindy Crowther (1:21:58). All three women are bound to have excited fans in the crowd as they are ranked top in the race and also all come from Vancouver.

Right now organizers are waiting to find out whether Natasha Wodak will be racing or if she will be present on the course to pace the 2:00 group.

About Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Vancouver Half-Marathon

The half-marathon boasts spectacular waterfront views with nearly half of the 21K course running along the English Bay and Coal Harbour. Other scenic attractions include the cobblestone-laden Gastown, Canada’s largest Chinatown, the surrounding area of Olympic Park, and Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park. The Cunningham Seawall 10K course encompasses the famous Seawall loop around Stanley Park, which it has traditionally done for the last 45 years.

The weekend concludes with a high-energy finish line festival and headliner concert performance in downtown Vancouver. Stanley Park Brewing will provide locally brewed beer.

The race will benefit the John Volken Foundation, a non-profit organization that operates a long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment center. John Volken Foundation’s endurance training and fundraising program, Team Volken, will help participants rock the half-marathon or 10K all while raising awareness and funds for addiction recovery.
