Streaking for stripes: Running wild for Sumatran tigers

Runners bared everything but their soles streaking naked through the ZSL London Zoo to raise money and awareness for endangered Sumatran tigers.

Some 300 runners bared everything but their soles streaking naked through the ZSL London Zoo to raise money and awareness for the 300 Sumatran tigers that remain in the wild.

The 300m dash took place after-hours at the zoo, with the participants stripping down to nothing but a pair of running shoes and maybe some tiger ears. Some runners went buck wild and completed several laps of the circuit.

The event raised about $100,000 for conservation work to protect the critically endangered species of tiger.

‘It was the chance to get naked in a zoo, for the tigers,” streaker Son Osman, of Bromley, south east London, told the Daily Mail. “It was very liberating, and quite a unique experience.”

Runners in Canada can take part in the two zoo runs (and you can keep your clothes on for these ones): the Gorilla Run at the Calgary Zoo and the Canada Running Series Oasis ZooRun at the Toronto Zoo (this year’s event is sold out, but you can still get on the wait list).
