It was a big weekend on the track for many Canadians, seeing a few notable records

Levins wins impressive double

Cam Levins completed a very impressive double at the Armoury in New York City over the weekend, narrowly missing the Canadian indoor mile record set last year on the same track by Nate Brannen. He returned to win the two-mile only 35 minutes later.

Canadian junior indoor mile record

Junior athlete Justyn Knight finished third in the Penn State national meet mile to run his first sub-4:00 performance over the distance, breaking the national junior record. Knight ran 3:59.51 in a race that saw Rob Denault, another Canadian, win in 3:58.25. Knight is a freshman at the Syracuse University. Denault is a junior at Villanova.

Stafford breaks Armoury 1,000m record

Gabriela Stafford, competing for the University of Toronto, broke the Armoury record over 1,000m, running 2:42.75. She returned the next day to win the 800m in 2:06.49.

World leading 60m for Akeem Haynes

Akeem Haynes of Calgary ran a blistering 6.51 in the 60m in Arizona. The time is the fastest in Canada since 1997 and was, for a brief period, the fastest time in the world. Haynes ran the time on Saturday, but the result was bested on Sunday by Kim Collins of Saint Kitts and Nevis, who ran 6.48 in Moscow.
