Weekend weather: Best and worst places to run in Canada

Lethbridge
Lethbridge weather, March 27

The end of March can be an unpredictable time for runners. This year is no different. The weekend ahead of us is quite the mixed bag depending on which part of the country you live in (again.)

If you’re in the eastern half, don’t plan on wearing shorts or mesh sleeveless tops just yet. Keep the windbreaker close by. Cooler air is going to blow through eastern regions of Canada this weekend. Southern Quebec runners will be seeing light snow today. The temperature is only going to dip as the weekend goes on.

Nova Scotia and Newfoundland will likely be running through freezing rain (gross) and on Sunday, snow. There’s a chance the snow will stay offshore though.

Anyone living off of Ontario’s great lakes can also brace themselves for flurries. Those living anywhere near the North Bay area will be running in temperatures around -10C. Slightly north will be more like -13C.

Vancouver is going to be grey and rainy this weekend. The best spot to run in Canada will likely be southern Alberta. Those living in that part of the Prairies better get out and enjoy the warm-up. Regions around Lethbridge are experiencing summertime temperatures of 20C right now.

But there is good news for everyone. According to the weather network, summer is the longest season. This year, summer is 94 days, spring is 93 days and winter is (surprisingly) the shortest at 89 days. Even better news is that summer has been robbing time from spring making the hottest season even longer.
