The Winnipeg police half-marathon, in it’s tenth year, announced on Sunday it has reached it’s fundraising goal of $1 million.

Police from across Manitoba and outside the province come to Winnipeg to run in the event and raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society through the race’s March to a Million campaign, that set out ten years ago to raise the money.

The race, hosted each year by the police service in the city, has gained a lot of traction in the community over the past decade and on Sunday saw 2,900 participants complete the race.

“[We’ve] raised more money this year than in all the previous years […] since the race’s inception,” Veronica Hall, an organizer, told CBC. “We’ve hit a million dollars and we’re thrilled.”

Alice Sherwin, a local grade 1-3 french immersion teacher at École James Nisbet, won the women’s race for the first time and Corey Gallagher won the men’s race for the third time in four years.
