High school track athlete asks friend to prom in the best possible way

A high school track athlete in Florida asked a friend to prom with a heartwarming result.

Mikal Bartosik

A senior at Park Vista High School in Florida, track star Mikal Bartosik asked her friend Jonathan to prom in the best way possible presenting him with a cookie cake that spelled out “Will you go to prom with me?”

Jonathan, an 18-year-old who is part of the school’s autism spectrum, said yes after his celebratory reaction to Bartosik’s ‘promposal,’ a term given to a public proposal to take somebody to a high school prom. The two have been friends after Bartosik began sitting with Jonathan during lunch.

According to ESPNW, Bartosik said the April prom will be her “most special prom” to date after also attending the previous two years. Proms are typically end-of-year high school dances.

The video, first posted on Jan. 29, has since been retweeted on Twitter more than 6,000 times and has more than 13,000 likes.

Bartosik competes in the 100m hurdles and was the school’s only representative at Florida’s high school championships.

It’s not the first time that a high school track athlete has gotten attention for asking someone to prom. In December, this high school student built up the confidence to ask an elite steeplechase athlete to prom prior to a cross-country race.
