VIDEO: Car drives into P.E.I. Marathon start, creates roadblock
A woman drove her car into the start area of the Prince Edward Island Marathon on Sunday creating a roadblock for runners.
Runners at the Prince Edward Island Marathon had to avoid an on-course obstacle within the first 100m of the race.
According to local videography company Dagley Media, a woman drove her car into the start area of the P.E.I. Marathon on Sunday. As evident in the video, she remained in park until runners passed by, forcing some to split off and avoid the car on both sides.
The video, posted to YouTube, has received more than 17,000 views in the past 48 hours, as of Oct. 18 at 9 a.m. EDT. Fortunately, the Charlottetown start line area was not over-congested and runners were able to safely avoid the vehicle before continuing the race.

Matt Dagley wrote on Facebook that “Only in Charlottetown does an old lady drive her car into the middle of the P.E.I. Marathon start line as the gun goes off.” He says that people were yelling at her from a distance to get off the road but there was no delay in the gun start.

The incident took place on Grafton Street at the corner of Queen Street in downtown Charlottetown. From there, runners headed southwest. The car incident took place around 9 a.m. local time, according to Dagley. As one Facebook user pointed out, the marathon started outside of town meaning that the incident happened before the 5K, 10K, or half-marathon.

The maroon Ford Focus remained in park for more than a minute as the vehicle and the driver had nowhere to go once runners began passing on the left and right. PEI Marathon race weekend featured a 5K, 10K, half-marathon and 42.2K on Sunday.
