Lalonde steeple recordReturning from an ankle injury in triumphant form, Lalonde, who trains with the Speed River Track Club in Guelph, Ont., won the race by more than 10 seconds and dipped under Lydia Willemse’s previous Canadian record by just under one second.

Lalonde was forced to sit out the Canadian Championships in June, which were held in her hometown of Moncton, after spraining her ankle in training. She was given an injury exemption and added to the New Brunswick team for this year’s Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

The 21-year-old hopes to add a second gold medal to her collection on Thursday when she competes in the 1500m final.
