Anthony Famiglietti runs a 4-minute treadmill mile–on his 41st birthday
The 40-year-old who ran sub-4 with a dog has now done it on the treadmill, at 41
Until recently, only three men in history had run a sub-4-minute mile at age 40 or older: Bernard Lagat, Eamonn Coghlan, and Anthony Whiteman. In February, two-time Olympian and 3:55 miler Anthony Famiglietti posted a video of himself running a sub-4-minute mile, at age 40, with a dog. Last week, on his 41st birthday, he ran a sub-4-minute mile on a treadmill.

Famiglietti and his wife Karen own the Reckless Running store in Mooresville, North Carolina, where the run took place, with fans cheering. Famiglietti says he started his mile at an incline of 1.5 per cent at 3:56 pace (between 2:25 and 2:30 per kilometre, which he ran for almost two minutes. He then lowered the incline to zero and reduced his pace to 3:58, and ran for a total of four minutes and 12 seconds, or well past the mile mark. (His initial goal of running two miles at sub-4 pace might have been just a little too ambitious.)
I started my mile at 1.5% incline at 15.2mph 3:56 mile pace for almost 2 minutes and stayed at 15.1 3:58 mile pace and zero incline all the way to about 4 minutes 12 seconds. Well past mile mark. We’ll watch the video again to verify. I made it past 4 but not two miles!!!???

Famiglietti says he trained for a year and a half to be able to do it.
The six-time US champion was eighth in the opening round of the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2004 Games in Athens and finished 13th in the final in Beijing in 2008.
