Eight is Enough

My Hollywood dreams will have to wait. But at least they are something to distract me from the omnipresent pit of anxiety that has taken up residence in my stomach.

Day 118 of 130
Ks covered: 900
Ks to go: 202
General mood: Anxious
Running highlight: Can’t think of one
Equipment status: Sweaty
Body status: Congested

Celebrate the small stuff right?

Last week in New York, I bought some shorts – of the non-running variety – AND, drum roll please, they’re a size 8. Maybe the clothes in this particular shop fit a bit bigger. Heck, maybe Vitaman D is a placebo, but I’ll take it.

I have never ever, ever been a size 8 before. Not even when I was 8.

When I graduated from high school I had to squeeze myself into a 14, during undergrad and while training for my last marathon 6 years ago I saw size 10 for a nanosecond and the rest of my adult life I have lived somewhere in the 12-14 range. People, eight is part of the Golden ratiothe Fibonacci sequence, most famously used by Dan Brown to sell lots of books, oh, and a few other losers, like Da Vinci. Ooooooh. Spooky.

Seems My iGallop is really paying off.

To celebrate my victory, and for some blog writing fodder, I thought I would Google “Size 8 celebrities” because surely, now that I’m so svelte , there’s got to be some fame-mongers who want to share clothes with me… right? Short answer? No. The closest I came was a nine-months pregnant reality star bemoaning her hugeness.

Alas, my Hollywood dreams will have to wait. But at least they are something to distract me from the omnipresent pit of anxiety that has taken up residence in my stomach. I know it’s stupid…war, environmental destruction, world poverty, these should be the things keeping me up at night. But instead, I’m starting to obsess over this damn race. What if I get cramps? What if I don’t sleep/eat/drink/rest/run enough beforehand? What if my disintegrating orthotics finally decide, mid-race, that enough is enough? What if Brett Michaels loses Celebrity Apprentice?

On the bright side, did I mention I bought a pair of size 8 shorts?
