Maritime Race Weekend will get you tatted up this year

Dig deep, maties!

Earlier this year, I was giving a “Race Prep” talk to a group of runners. I mentioned that on race day I usually write something with a permanent marker on the inside of my wrist as a reminder to forge ahead. In that moment, a lightbulb went on. Maritime Race Weekend needs a slogan to encourage runners and of course it has to be pirate themed.

Everyone loves an easy run when it feels effortless, but even on a great route there are days where our body will fight us. It can be unexpected and it can happen even we are properly trained. Those are the times when we need to physically and mentally challenge ourselves the most. We have to push through and not give up.

One particular run that comes to mind is my first half-marathon. I was so proud afterwards. I’m not going to beat around the bush: it was horrible. But I finished and never forgot what it took to receive my medal.

When I started brainstorming ideas for our slogan, “Dig Deep” popped into my head. I ran with it (literally!).

Instead of runners writing on their bodies with markers, I wanted to provide temporary tattoos. Sounds easy enough, but when a race gets to this size, every new idea become expensive. I called Brooks Running to see if they’d help us with the cost – they jumped aboard. In addition to the amazing race shirt, buff, running hat and early-bird swag (socks, coffee mug and race belt) there will be an incredible temporary tattoo in the race kits to help you to reach the finish line.
