2017 Boston Marathon elite cheat sheet: Rachel Hannah

With the 2017 Boston Marathon coming up, fans need to know who will be on the start line. Who are this year's elites and what should you know about them?

The Boston Marathon is rapidly approaching now. If you’re not running this year, likely you’re going to be watching– either in the crowd or on a screen. Paying attention to the elite running scene is far more interesting when you know the players. That’s why ahead of this year’s race, we’re bring you “cheat sheets” of elites expected to be at the start line. To introduce this series, we’re starting with one of our Canadian runners: Rachel Hannah. Rachel Hannah took her first crack at the marathon just two years ago. Since then, she has represented Canada in the Pan Am Games and become one of Canada’s best women in the distance. 

RACHEL HANNAH, 30 

Hometown: Toronto 

Debut marathon: Ottawa Marathon, 2015: 2:33:30 (Canada’s second-fastest female debut)

Marathon PB: 2:32:09, Houston Marathon, 2016 

Number of marathons completed: Four (Ottawa, Houston and two in Toronto) 

Training fact: Last year, Hannah was present during race weekend. Rather than run the full marathon, she ran the 5K past the marathon finish line. 

Racing fact: Usually, Hannah plays tourist for a day after her race. She tends to stick around in the city she’s visiting to take in some non-running related activities. 

Recent performance: 2016 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon: 2:34:34. 

On running the Boston Marathon: “To be at the start line with the world’s best is quite an honour.”
