Cam Levins opens outdoor track season at Mount Sac Relays

Outdoor track is back and Cam Levins is set to open his season.

Outdoor track is back and former Canadian 10,000m record holder Cam Levins is set to open his season. This year alone, the elite Canadian distance runner has dealt with injury, signed with a new company and had a strong showing at World Half Marathon Championships this past March. Levins is fresh off a new PB at World Half of 1:02:15 and set to open his outdoor track season this Friday at the Mount Sac Relays.

The Mount Sac Relays include all levels of competition from high school, to college, to pro races. The relays takes place at El Camino college just outside Los Angeles. Sunny California serves as a warm weather spot for many Canadians to open their outdoor track seasons.

Levins is set to race the 1,500m and 5,000m on Friday evening at 6:45pm PT and 8:20pm PT respectively. This double will likely serve as a training day for Levins, as he will only have an hour and a half to recover between efforts. He is the only Canadian in his races.

Other Canadians running this weekend are Jenna Westaway of Calgary and Lindsey Butterworth of Burnaby. Coming off a very strong indoor season and a World Indoor Championship qualification in the 800m, Westaway will be running the 1500m at 6:35pm PT on Friday. Butterworth will be doubling this weekend, running the 1,500m alongside Westaway on Friday, and the 800m Saturday at 3:05pm PT. This season, both women will be chasing a NACAC ‘Track and Field in the 6ix’ qualification which takes place this August at Varsity stadium in Toronto.
